2022 College Dux - Katelyn Haddow

Year 12 results day is still very important to students and schools, despite the prevalence of early offers to university and the variety of apprenticeship and training pathways.  The 2022 senior cohort at Mary MacKillop Catholic College have set a high bar for learning, hard work and community this year.  All students will go onto some form of education, employment or training in 2023, with some taking on full-time apprenticeships the day after graduation!

Principal Chris Gabbett said, ‘It is important to remember that ATAR is only a part of the overall educational journey for our young people.  Whilst this number is crucial for their next steps into University, I know it is only one way that we have formed them at Mary MacKillop to support the Common Good.  I am confident that all these graduates will do positive things.  Congratulations to all our year 12 leavers’.

Of those who undertook an ATAR pathway and disclosed their result, 27% were over 95, 50% were over 90 and 66% were over 80.  The highest ATAR was achieved by Katelyn Haddow, who got 96.30.  The running was so close at the end of the year that Katelyn only found out she was the College Dux this morning! This is particularly special for the College as Katelyn has completed all of her education from Prep to Year 12 at Mary MacKillop.

Dean of Senior Studies at the College, Mr Chris Bracken, said, ‘The rigours of year 12—whether it be achieving a high ATAR score, completing a School Based Apprenticeship or juggling both—is a demanding and stressful time for our young people. The students of Mary MacKillop Catholic College balanced these demands with dignity and graciousness and successfully found time to enjoy their final term at the College. They should be very proud of their efforts, this year.’

The Co-Chairs of the College Parent Partnership Network also took a moment to celebrate the success of our graduates, with Mr Shayne Clearly and Mrs Rowena Voll commentng, ‘Congratulations to all our MMCC Graduates who have all put in the hard work, dedication and commitment throughout the last 2 years of their Senior education. Well done on your outstanding results and achievements! You all should be so very proud of yourselves, we wish you the best of luck in your future careers and endeavours’.
